PVC Fun! Today, we introduce everyone to some new lifts that are fundamental to advancing in your CrossFit training:
- Back Squat ("BS")
- Front Squat ("FS")
- Overhead Squat ("OHS")
Front Squats are excellent for reducing stress on the lower back due to the need to maintain a vertical posture. The FS is also excellent for quadricep development, abdominal training and the FS is a key lift to master in order to perform Cleans, Thrusters and Overhead Presses.
The Overhead Squat is one of the most effective core (abdominal and lower back) exercises that exists. By bringing the barbell overhead you move the body's center of gravity higher, which forces your core muscles to try and restabilize your body to keep the barbell from falling forward or backward. This means the OHS is beneficial for strengthening the lower back, as well as improving strength and flexibility in the shoulders and legs.
